The CONTRAfluranTM canister

The sensofluran sensor on a contrafluran canister

The SENSOfluran™ sensor2

  • The sensor is both a holder and a sensor. It clamps on to anesthesia machines and holds the canister.
  • The gas detector at the bottom of the sensor unit detects gas flow coming out of the canister as it fills.
  • An LED light panel indicates when the canister is full and needs to be changed.

SENSOfluran™ is intended to remove fluorinated halocarbons (such as sevoflurane, desflurane, and isoflurane).2 Use SENSOfluran PLUS to stay connected to the anesthetic gas scavenging system (AGSS) or if nitrous oxide will be used in the operating room.4

The sensor indicator system2

The green light on the SENSOfluran is on

GREEN LED (bottom):

Indicates the canister is ready to capture expired gas and has sufficient free capacity.

The green light and the first yellow light are on

YELLOW LED (second from bottom):

Indicates the capacity of the canister is diminishing. But the concentration of the anesthetic gas in the filtered exhausted air lies within the MAK accepted values. A canister change is recommended when the second yellow LED lights up.

Both yellow lights on the SENSOfluran are on

TWO YELLOW LEDs (middle two):

Indicates the maximum capacity of the filter is approaching. The canister should be replaced as soon as possible.

The red light on the SENSOfluran is on

RED LED (top):

Indicates the maximum capacity of the filter is reached. The canister must be replaced.
