Introducing the CONTRAfluran™ Anesthetic Gas Capture System OLD

Be the change you want to see in the world—CONTRAfluranTM can help
Inhaled anesthetics are one of the greatest discoveries in healthcare…but until now their use had a greenhouse gas effect.1
Now there is help.
The CONTRAfluran™ Anesthetic Gas Capture System captures 99%2 of a patient’s exhaled anesthetic gas in the operating theatre (OT) and prevents its release into the atmosphere.
Note: CONTRAfluran™ is not available in all markets. Contact your Baxter sales representative for more information.

Who needs “sustainable” anesthesia? We all do.
In most settings, inhaled anesthetic gases are vented into the atmosphere following use—causing anesthetic gas loss to the atmosphere.
Eco-conscious efforts to reduce the use of inhaled anesthetics are laudable—but are they enough?
Truly “sustainable” anesthesia would address the environmental, social, and economic needs of hospitals and patients.3,4
CONTRAfluran™, distributed by Baxter, can help offer you that.
Achieve more with CONTRAfluran™

Move towards sustainable anesthesia with CONTRAfluranTM
CONTRAfluran™ Anesthetic Gas Capture System is a simple, compact, easy-to-use system that uses a highly effective coconut-based absorption medium.5,7
Anesthesia machines must be converted to passive mode. Then, simply attach the compact canister to the anesthesia machine whenever sevoflurane or desflurane is being used. Then, operate your anesthesia machine as usual.
For detailed instructions, see the Instructions for Use for CONTRAfluran™ and SENSOfluran™.
The system absorbs the patient’s exhaled gas for collection and—pending regulatory authority approval—for potential reuse.5,6

CONTRAfluranTM helps reduce your hospital’s carbon footprint6
In addition to capturing 99%2 of a patient’s exhaled anesthetic gas in the OT, the CONTRAfluran™ system offers additional features to reduce the environmental impact of your hospital, like sustainable and lightweight materials and recyclable canisters. Even after taking canister manufacturing, transportation, processing, patient gas retention, storage, and recycling pending regulatory approval (where and when possible) into consideration, the CONTRAfluran™ system significantly reduces your hospital’s carbon footprint.6
Appropriate use
The CONTRAfluran™-Anesthetic gas canister is intended to remove fluorinated halocarbons (such as sevoflurane, desflurane, and isoflurane) in operation rooms, intensive care units, and mobile or ambulatory treatment areas, regardless of the type of exhaust device used. The CONTRAfluran™-Anesthetic gas canister is designed exclusively for these applications.
The SENSOfluran™-Fill level control unit must only be used in combination with the CONTRAfluran™-Anesthetic gas canister during sedation and operation of patients using volatile anesthetics.
CONTRAfluran™ and SENSOfluran™ are not intended for use with nitrous oxide or other anesthetic gases!
Please note that the canister and fill level control unit must only be used by qualified personnel.
For the safe and proper use of the devices mentioned herein, please refer to the complete Instructions for Use.
